Belarusian Police Disperse Gay-Pride Parade

Police arrest participants in the Minsk gay-pride march on May 15.

Belarusian police used force to disperse a gay-pride parade in Minsk today.

The parade had been banned by the authorities.

Riot police broke up the march and arrested more than a dozen participants. Some were reportedly beaten in the process.

The organizers said their goal was to attract public attention to the violation of sexual minorities' rights in Belarus.

Previous gay pride parades in the country have also been shut down by the police.
