Boycotting Duma Deputies Threatened With Wage Sanctions

MOSCOW -- The speaker of the Russian State Duma has said that representatives of the Communist faction in the parliament might lose their salaries for each Duma session they skip, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

On October 14, representatives of the Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), and the A Just Russia party walked out of the Duma to protest alleged falsification of the October 11 regional elections.

The LDPR and A Just Russia returned to the legislature after President Dmitry Medvedev promised to meet with them.

Communist party leaders will meet on October 20 to discuss whether to continue their boycott.
