BRUSSELS (Reuters) -- European states have reached a preliminary agreement to remove exiled Iranian opposition group the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) off an EU list of banned terrorist groups, diplomats have said.
The agreement, reached among EU envoys, must still win final approval from foreign ministers of the 27 EU states at a meeting in Brussels on January 26.
It follows a string of European court decisions against the blacklisting of the group, also known as the People's Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI).
"The deal has been done. It [MKO] will be delisted," said one EU diplomat, although he stressed that the decision would not become operative until ministers gave their approval.
