At least 11 Afghan police and a provincial official have been killed in three separate attacks in the north of the country.
The provincial head in the Emam Saheb district of Kunduz Province, Ayub Aqyar, said six police officers were killed when Taliban militants overran their post on the night of July 10.
Authorities in another district of Kunduz, Qaleh Zaal, said a bomb blast killed district governor Malim Nazeer along with his driver. Five police were also reported killed in a roadside bomb blast in Badakhshan Province.
Northern Afghanistan has largely escaped the bulk of fighting between the Taliban insurgency and nearly 150,000 NATO-led foreign troops. But it is facing a growing insurgency far from Taliban's traditional power bases in the south and east.
