Fourteen Said Killed By U.S. Missile Strikes In NW Pakistan

At least 14 people are reported to have been killed in northwest Pakistan, near the Afghan border, in a barrage of missile strikes by U.S. drone aircraft.

Pakistani security officials are quoted as saying U.S. drones fired at least 12 missiles at a compound and vehicles used by suspected militants in Dattakhel, in the North Waziristan tribal district, today.

The identities of those killed were not immediately confirmed.

The strikes were the latest in a series of operations in the region since a failed attempt to set off a car bomb in New York City's Times Square on May 1.

U.S. officials have said investigators now believe that Taliban militants operating out of the northwestern Pakistan border region were behind the attempted attack.
