Human Rights Activist Kovalyov On Slow Progress In Russia

Sergei Kovalyov has spent some 50 years defending human rights in Russia, and turning 80 has done little to slow his work.

RFE/RL’s Russian Service reported on Kovalyov’s accomplishments as he celebrated his 80th birthday last week.

Russian Service correspondent Vladimir Tolz has also filed a video interview with Kovalyov, in which the activist speaks about his frustration with the lack of democratic progress in Russia, and the fact that the constitution is virtually the same today as it was under Stalin.
