Missing Kazakh Banker Suspected Of Embezzlement

Nurbank in southern Kazakhstan -- one of the country's largest banks

SHYMKENT, Kazakhstan -- The director of NurBank in the southern Kazakh city of Shymkent is wanted by authorities for alleged embezzlement, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.

Shymkent Province Interior Ministry spokesman Saltanat Qarakozova told RFE/RL that Askar Kosherbaev is suspected of having misappropriated $3.3 million. The whereabouts of Kosherbaev and his family are unknown.

Qarakozova said authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Kosherbaev.

NurBank is one of Kazakhstan's largest banks.
