North Ossetian Court Sentences Man For Being Georgian Spy

VLADIKAVKAZ -- The Supreme Court in the Russian republic of North Ossetia has sentenced a man for being a Georgian spy, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The court found Badri Kushashvili guilty and sentenced him to eight years in jail.

The court said the sentence took into account the fact that Kushashvili pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation.

Kushashvili is the third man convicted in Russia in recent months of being a Georgian spy.

South Ossetia and Georgia's other breakaway region of Abkhazia proclaimed their independence in August 2008 after Russian troops entered South Ossetia and forced the Georgian military out after a five-day armed conflict.
