British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that a British aid worker kidnapped in Afghanistan may have been killed by U.S. forces instead of her captors in a botched rescue attempt.
Linda Norgrove, 36, was killed on October 8 in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar Province after being kidnapped in a Taliban ambush on September 26.
Cameron said that General David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, had told him that Norgrove may have been killed by a grenade detonated by a member of the U.S. special forces rescue team.
But Cameron cautioned that "this is not certain" and said there will be a full investigation into the incident.
Initial reports said Norgrove was killed by a bomb set off by the Taliban.
