Russian Blogger Sentenced For Antiestablishment Protest

An unemployed man in the western Russian city of Samara has been found guilty of publishing extremist statements on the Internet and given a one-year suspended jail sentence, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Dmitry Kirillin posted text on his blog that criticized Russia's government and called for readers to protest against it.

A representative of the Federal Security Service (FSB) department in Samara Oblast told RFE/RL that Kirillin was fully capable of understanding that by posting his articles on the Internet he was sharing his ideas on working against the state.
