Seven Afghan Police Officers Killed In Far North

At least seven Afghan police officers were killed and one injured today in a roadside bomb attack for which the Taliban claimed responsibility.

Deputy Governor of Baghlan Province Shams-Ul Rahman Shams confirmed a remote-controlled bomb was detonated when a police vehicle was patrolling in the remote northeastern Badakhshan Province, near the borders of Tajikistan and China.

Purported Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said Taliban militants detonated the bomb and that all eight policemen in the vehicle were killed.

In a separate incident in nearby Kunduz Province, three Taliban were killed and seven injured when they attempted to attack a police post, according to provincial deputy provincial police chief Mohammad Razaq Yaqubi.

He said there were no casualties among police.
