Thirteen-year-old American Jordan Romero has become the youngest climber ever to reach the top of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
The climbing team with the boy reported on its website that it had reached the 8,850 meter summit of the mountain safely today.
The former record for the youngest climber to scale Everest was held by Temba Tsheri of Nepal, who reached the top of Mount Everest at age 16.
Romero has set a goal of climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents. Everest was reportedly sixth on his list, with the highest peak in Antarctica, Vinson Massif, yet to go.
Sir Edmund Hillary and his guide, Tenzing Norgay, were the first to scale the 8,848-meter summit of Mount Everest in 1953.
