ASTRAKHAN, Russia -- Dozens of schoolchildren have been hospitalized with apparent food poisoning in the Astrakhan oblast of Russia's Volga region, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
The 39 children -- aged between eight and 14 -- are students at the same school in the village of Tuzuklei.
The first patients were referred to a doctor on April 30, followed by others over the weekend.
Local police have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials in Astrakhan Oblast said they would make public later today the results of laboratory tests on the school's meals.
