For hundreds of female convicts in Afghanistan, a prison sentence places a heavy burden on the entire family. Children up to the age of seven live with mothers serving terms for crimes ranging from drug smuggling to adultery. Radio Free Afghanistan correspondent Freba Mohd Zaher visited prisons across Afghanistan to investigate the conditions for the women there and for the children who are growing up behind bars.
