India has offered more aid to Afghanistan after international forces withdraw next year.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee told his visiting Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai, on May 21 that New Delhi is proud to help his country.
A statement from Mukherjee's office noted that "India is prepared to increase bilateral contribution to institution-building, training, and equipment."
The statement did not elaborate on whether the assistance will include military aid.
Karzai met Mukherjee and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an apparent push to secure military aid.
Before the meetings, Karzai’s spokesman, Aimal Faizi, said the Afghan leader was looking for "all kinds of assistance from India" in order to strengthen Afghan "military and security institutions."
India has already been providing some military training assistance under a "strategic partnership" agreement reached in 2011.
