Attack On Kandahar's Governor, Police Chief Leaves 22 Dead

A militant attack against the offices of the governor and police chief in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar Province has ended, with casualties on both sides.

Dawa Khan Meenapal, a spokesman for the Kandahar governor's office, said three police officers, one civilian, and all 18 attackers were killed in an ensuing gun battle.

Four police officers and 10 civilians were injured.

Kandahar Governor Toryalai Wesa had reportedly been meeting security officials before the assault began.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
