Afghan Leader Sharply Criticizes U.S., NATO For Insecurity

Afghan President Hamid Karzai

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has criticized NATO and the United States for growing insecurity in his country.

In an exclusive interview with NBC Television on December 6, Karzai said that along with Taliban attacks "part of the insecurity is coming to us from the structures that NATO and America created in Afghanistan."

He added that the way Western private security firms and contractors behaved with Afghans caused anger and insecurity.

When asked if some of the insecurity was intentionally being created by NATO and Washington, Karzai replied, "there is a very strong perception that some of that insecurity is intentional, yes."

Karzai also accused Washington of breaching last year's strategic partnership agreement with Kabul by not respecting its sovereignty.
