Alleged WikiLeaks Source Asking U.S. Military Judge To Drop Charges

Pfc. Bradley Manning is escorted following a motions hearing in the case US vs. Manning at Fort Meade in Maryland in March.

The U.S. Army private accused of engineering the biggest leak of government secrets in U.S. history is asking a military judge to dismiss all of the charges against him.

Oral arguments on Bradley Manning's motion for dismissal were scheduled at a pretrial hearing starting April 24 in Maryland.

Manning is charged with causing hundreds of thousands of classified war documents and diplomatic cables to be published on the website WikiLeaks.

A trial date in the case had not been scheduled.

Manning's attorneys say military prosecutors have failed in their obligation to hand over a broad range of documents that potentially could be helpful to his defense.

Rather than restart the discovery process that began two years ago, the defense was asking the judge to dismiss the case.
