Annan To Report Syrian Cease-Fire Violations

International envoy Kofi Annan's spokesman has said satellite imagery shows Syrian security forces have not withdrawn heavy weapons from urban centers or returned to their barracks as required under a cease-fire plan.

Spokesman Ahmad Fawzi also said Syrian troops are approaching people who meet with UN monitors after they leave a town, and those people sometimes may be killed.

Fawzi said Annan would inform the UN Security Council of the violations during a closed session later on April 24.

Meanwhile, fresh violence was reported in Hama, despite the cease-fire that went into effect April 12.

Syrian state media reported that rebels killed three regime officials in separate attacks around Damascus on April 24.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned Syrian troops and rebel fighters the same day not to disrupt the work of UN monitors.
