Environmentalists in China say U.S. computer maker Apple is relying on companies to make their products who are damaging the environment by pumping out pollutants.

A group of NGOs accused the company of violating its own corporate responsibility standards by using suppliers that allegedly violate the law and endanger public health by discharging heavy metals and other toxins.

An Apple spokeswoman told the French news agency AFP that the company was looking closely at the allegations and had carried out audits of practices at 97 factories around the world last year.
