The International Olympic Committee has stripped Lance Armstrong of an Olympic cycling bronze from the 2000 Summer Olympics in the wake of his doping disqualification.
A spokesman said the IOC sent a letter to Armstrong asking him to return the medal.
Armstrong has already been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and disqualified from all events he competed in since 1998 by the International Cycling Union.
The UCI's decision came after the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said in a report Armstrong led "the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen."
The IOC's decision comes the same day that Armstrong’s television interview with American talk show host Oprah Winfrey is to be broadcast.
During his interview on Oprah airing later on January 17, Armstrong reportedly confesses to substance abuse.
