BAKU -- An Azerbaijani court is scheduled to resume hearings on November 5 into the appeal filed by jailed human rights activist Leyla Yunus and her husband, Arif Yunus.
The couple's lawyer, Elcin Sadiqov, told RFE/RL that he will again ask the Baku Court of Appeals to move the couple from prison to house arrest.
Sadiqov said that, during a previous hearing on October 5, the court sent the case to the Baku Court for Serious Crimes.
That court had not yet reacted to the ruling, he added.
In August, the Baku Court for Serious Crimes sentenced Leyla Yunus and her severely ailing husband Arif to 8 1/2 and 7 years in prison, respectively, after judging them guilty of economic crimes.
The sentencings were denounced as a travesty of justice by the two defendants and by international human rights groups.
