The forests of Belarus resounded to strange grunts and groans at the weekend as contestants from several countries came together for the 17th European deer-calling championships on May 30. The idea is to imitate the call of the stag, thereby attracting the deer and getting close enough to kill it. Contestants imitate a variety of moods, including a mating call or a cry of victory after a fight with another stag. (Reuters)
