MINSK -- The leader of the unregistered Youth Front political movement in Belarus has been sentenced to three days for resistance to police.
Zmitser Dashkevich was detained on November 6 while collecting signatures under a petition demanding the renaming of Lenin Street in the center of Minsk.
A court in Belarusian capital sentenced him to three days in jail on the same day.
Dashkevich says he and his colleagues have been collecting signatures under various petitions aimed at what he called the "de-communization" of Belarus.
Dashkevich was released from jail in August after he served more than 2 1/2 years for assaulting two people in Minsk in December 2010.
Dashkevich has denied doing so, saying the charge was politically motivated.
Amnesty International had designated Dashkevich a "prisoner of conscience" who was jailed for his political views.
