British, Iranian Foreign Ministers Meet In Kabul

British Foreign Secretary William Hague

British Foreign Secretary William Hague has held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, in what's being described as the highest-level meeting between Iran and Britain since Iranian protesters stormed the British Embassy in Tehran in November.

The two envoys met on June 14 in Kabul on the sidelines of an international conference on Afghanistan.

Reports say Hague and Salehi discussed renewing the diplomatic ties between London and Tehran that were damaged after the embassy incident, which led Britain to withdraw staff from Iran and cut other diplomatic links.

They also reportedly discussed the upcoming talks between Iran and six world powers on Iran's nuclear program scheduled in Moscow on June 18-19.

The six powers include Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States.
