British Couple Convicted Of Planning Terrorist Attack

A British couple have been found guilty of plotting a terrorist attack in London, allegedly to mark the 10th anniversary of the July 7, 2005, attacks on the city's transport system.

Mohammed Rehman, 25, and his wife Sana Ahmed Khan, 24, were found guilty on December 29 by a jury at the Central Criminal Court in London.

Rehman was only a few days away from finishing work on a bomb capable of causing mass casualties when police moved in on May 28, prosecutors said.

They say Rehman had been stockpiling a substantial amount of chemicals and had detonated a small practice device in his backyard.

Rehman's wife helped him by paying for chemicals purchased on eBay.

Authorities say Rehman -- who had used the name Silent Bomber on Twitter -- asked his followers on the social network to help him choose a target to bomb.

"Westfield shopping center or London underground?" he tweeted.

The couple, who denied the charges, will be sentenced at a later date.

The 2005 attacks carried out by four British Muslim suicide bombers killed 52 civilians and injured hundreds more.
