British Public Sector Workers Strike Over Pension Reform

Hundreds of thousands of British public-sector workers go on a 24-hour strike today to protest planned changes to their pensions.

Under the proposed reforms, workers will work longer and face higher contributions to their pensions.

The government says the reforms are needed to reduce the budget deficit now at more than 10 percent.

Many schools will remain closed across the country and air passengers will face delays as immigration officials join the walkout.

Reports say up to 750,000 workers could join the strike.
