A retired British businessman has been sentenced by a U.S. court to 33 months in prison for trying to buy missile parts and resell them to Iran.
Christopher Tappin was sentenced on January 9 by a judge in El Paso, Texas.
The 66-year-old Tappin pleaded guilty to the charges in November after reaching a plea-bargain agreement that would allow him to serve at least part of his sentence in Britain near his wife.
Without the plea-bargain deal, Tappin could have faced up to 35 years in prison.
He was extradited to the United States in February 2012 after he tried to buy missile batteries from undercover U.S. agents with the intention of exporting them to Iran without getting a license.
