MONDAY, October 3:

Azerbaijan: Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev visits Azerbaijan.

Balkans: Poland hosts ministerial forum EU-Western Balkans (to October 4).

EU/Ukraine: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko to take part at the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg.

Israel/Ukraine: Israeli President Shimon Peres is expected to visit Ukraine to take part in events marking the 70th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy.

Russia/U.K.: Preliminary hearings in a $3.1 billion compensation lawsuit by Boris Berezovsky against Roman Abramovich are scheduled in London.

Ukraine: Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visits Ukraine.

UN: World Habitat Day.

World: 2011 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine announced in Stockholm.


TUESDAY, October 4:

Afghanistan/India: Afghan President Hamid Karzai starts a two-day visit in New Delhi.

Azerbaijan/Russia: Azerbaijan-Russia business forum to be held in Baku.

EU: European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee to hold a meeting on Afghanistan, Central Asia, and South Caucasus in Brussels (to October 5).

Russia/Georgia: The next round of the Geneva talks between Russia and Georgia is scheduled to be held.

World: 2011 Nobel Prize for Physics announced in Stockholm.


WEDNESDAY, October 5:

Armenia: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to discuss the situation of democracy in Armenia at its autumn session in Strasbourg.

Belarus: The IMF mission visits Minsk to discuss the economic situation with the Belarusian government (to October 17).

Kazakhstan: Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite visits Astana (to October 7).

Ukraine: Ninth international Orthodox film festival Pokrov opens in Kyiv ( to October 9).

World: 2011 Nobel Prize for Chemistry to be announced in Stockholm.

Wolrd: International Teacher’s Day.


THURSDAY, October 6:

Armenia: French President Nicolas Sarkozy visits Yerevan.

Azerbaijan: The delegation of the European Union and embassies of the EU member states in Azerbaijan hold the European Movie Festival 2011 in Baku (to October 10).

Ukraine/Greece: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is scheduled to visit Athens (to October 8).

World: 2011 Anna Politkovskaya Award winner to be announced in London.


FRIDAY, October 7:

Afghanistan: Tenth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.

Azerbaijan: French President Nicolas Sarkozy visits Baku.

Georgia: French President Nicolas Sarkozy is scheduled to make a public speech on Freedom Square in Tbilisi.

NATO: The 57th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly opens in Bucharest (to October 10).
