A 7-year-old girl has become the first confirmed case in the Chinese capital of the latest strain of bird-flu virus.
The Beijing Health Bureau said on April 13 that the girl, whose parents are poultry traders, had been infected with the H7N9 virus.
She was admitted to a hospital on April 11 with symptoms of fever, sore throat, coughing, and headache.
China is the first country to report human infections from the H7N9 virus.
Some 40 people have been infected with the virus and 11 of them have died.
All the previous infections have been in the east of the country.
Chinese health authorities and the World Health Organization have played down fears of an epidemic, saying there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission.
