China says two cases of bird flu have been detected in the central province of Henan.
The Xinhua news agency reported on April 14 that one of the victims was critically ill in the hospital, while the other was stable.
The two cases do not appear to be connected.
In total, 55 people have been infected and 11 have died of the disease since Chinese authorities announced two weeks ago they had found the H7N9 virus in humans for the first time.
Until April 13, when one case was reported in Beijing, all cases had been recorded in eastern China.
All victims had regular contact with poultry, which prompted mass poultry culls in several cities.
The World Health Organization said last week there was as yet no evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus.
