China says it has "serious concern" about comments by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump that suggesting he is reconsidering the United States' relationship with Taiwan.
A spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, Geng Shuang, said on December 12 that Trump's remarks raised the possibility that U.S.-China relations would be "badly affected."
China considers Taiwan, which is a self-governing island, to be Chinese territory.
Washington has had the one-China policy of having diplomatic relations only with Beijing since 1979.
But Trump told Fox News on December 11 that he does not feel "bound by a one-China policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade."
"I don't want China dictating to me," he added.
Trump's comments came more than a week after he took a congratulatory phone call from Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, something that angered Beijing.
