Chinese To Remake Cult Yugoslav War Movie

Chinese and Balkan filmmakers have announced that they are planning a remake of a cult Yugoslav wartime movie which is hugely popular in China.

"Walter Defends Sarajevo" was originally filmed in 1972 by Bosnian filmmaker Hajrudin Siba Krvavac.

It was shown in dozens of countries but it achieved its greatest success in China.

It became so popular in China that children and streets were named after the film's main character, who leads the communist resistance against retreating Nazi troops at the end of World War Two.

The remake will have a Chinese director but it will be shot and produced mainly in Bosnia with local actors.

It will have a budget of $7 million euros ($9.7 million.) Shooting is to begin in early 2015.
