The captain of the capsized "Costa Concordia" cruiseliner has apologized for his role in the ship's running aground after a hole was torn in its hull, an incident that killed 32 people in January.
In a television interview, Naples-born Francesco Schettino acknowledged his responsibility as captain when the ship struck rocks off the Tuscan island of Giglio on January 13.
He said he constantly thinks about the victims of the disaster.
Schettino is charged with multiple counts of manslaughter, causing the accident, and abandoning ship before all of the 4,200 passengers and crew were safely evacuated.
Last week, Schettino was released from house arrest after seven months.
He is not allowed to leave his hometown near Naples, however, while an investigation continues.
