Former Czech President Havel Hospitalized

Revolutionary icon and former Czech President Vaclav Havel has been hospitalized with acute bronchitis.

Havel's office says the 74-year-old champion of human rights and anticommunism is being treated by doctors at the Central Military Hospital in Prague.

His office said Havel had canceled all his scheduled meetings and appearances for the next two weeks -- except for his planned attendance at the March 22 premiere of his directorial debut film, "Leaving," a play of his that was first staged in 2007 about a former government leader of an unnamed country battling to avoid losing his home to a former deputy.

Years ago, Havel had half of his right lung removed due to a malignant tumor, and every respiratory disease carries a serious risk for him.
