Suicide attackers wearing police uniforms have killed five people in southeastern Afghanistan.
Security officials said that the attackers were caught trying to sneak through a checkpoint in Paktika province's Yayakhil district.
Provincial police chief Dawlat Khan Zadran said that all six attackers died in the botched operation.
He said that the men were on their way to attack a district government office when they were intercepted at a checkpoint.
During the fight, four attackers died after they detonated their suicide vests and two were shot and killed. Two civilians and three police officers were also killed in the fighting.
The attack on May 10 was the latest in a string of violence in Paktika.
On May 8, militants there shot and killed four Education Ministry employees and a bodyguard.
On May 6, four gunmen were killed by security forces.
