European Union ministers have agreed to open a new negotiating chapter with Turkey, reviving Ankara's stalled EU membership bid after a three-year break.
Diplomats from the 28-nation bloc meeting in Luxembourg said the two sides would meet on November 5 to launch discussions on regional policy.
That's the 14th negotiating chapter that Turkey will open out of the 35 foreseen as part of EU accession.
In a statement issued on October 22, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said the decision represents an "important step."
He said that "recent developments in Turkey underline the importance of EU engagement and of the EU remaining the benchmark for reform in Turkey."
