The European Union’s top employment official has warned that the EU must create a path to work for young people in order to overcome an economic rift that has caused mass unemployment within some EU member states.
Employment Commissioner Laszlo Andor told Reuters on July 18 that Europe now faces a "dangerous polarization."
He said investments that create jobs are now needed to maintain social peace and bolster economic recovery after years of austerity.
Andor said policies that constantly compress workers’ wages have the effect of lowering consumer demand and "can kill the recovery."
Andor made the remarks in Moscow where he has traveled to attend meetings with labor and finance ministers from the Group of 20 economies.
