Emmelie de Forest of Denmark has won the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
The singer soared to glory on the strength of her song "Only Teardrops" in the competition May 18 in Malmo, Sweden.
The Danish singer, who had been widely tipped to win, beat out 25 other finalists in the 58th edition of the Eurovision contest.

De Forest tallied 281 points.

"Only Teardrops" was written by Lise Cabble, the former lead vocalist for the band Miss B. Haven who herself performed for Denmark in the 1995 Eurovision competition and co-wrote her country's 2011 Eurovision entry "New Tomorrow," along with Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard.
The Danish act was followed in the voting by Farid Mammadov of Azerbaijan, who finished second with 234 points with the song "Hold Me."
Ukraine's Zlata Ognevich, who sang "Gravity," finished in third at 214 points.
The show was watched by tens of millions of television viewers across Europe.
