Incoming Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is a former interior minister.

TBILISI -- Newly sworn-in Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has confirmed the appointment of Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili as the country's new prime minister.

Margvelashvili signed the corresponding decree on November 18, after the ruling Georgian Dream coalition nominated Garibashvili to the post.

Garibashvili, in his turn, proposed the members of his cabinet, who remain the same as in the previous government except for a new interior minister, Aleksandr Chikaidze.

The new cabinet is expected to be confirmed by parliament later this week.

On November 17, after taking the oath of office, Margvelashvili signed his first presidential decree, authorizing the members of outgoing Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili's government to perform their duties before parliament confirms a new government.
