TBILISI -- A Georgian court has suspended Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava amid ongoing investigations into misuse of funds.
Ugulava called the December 22 ruling a politically motivated move and vowed to struggle to achieve his reinstatement.
Ugulava's lawyers said that they will appeal the Tbilisi City Court's ruling to the higher court.
Ugulava, an ally of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, was charged with misuse of municipal funds last week.
He is already standing trial into similar, but unrelated charges, which were filed against him in February.
A number of investigations have been launched against Saakashvili associates after his party lost parliamentary elections in October 2012.
