Two Gunmen Killed In Operation In Ingushetia

Two gunmen were killed and one security officer injured in a special counterterrorist operation in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.

Russia's National Antiterrorist Committee says the operation was launched after several gunmen who were holed up in a private house near the city of Nazran refused to surrender. The gunmen allowed two women and four children to leave the house.

In another operation by security forces in the neighboring republic of Daghestan, three militants were killed late on November 26.

Militants in Russia's Ingushetia, Daghestan, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria frequently attack police, moderate Muslims, and local officials, saying they want to create an Islamic state in southern Russia.
