Hillary Clinton has responded to a controversy over allegations that she inappropriately used her personal e-mail for work while secretary of state from 2009 to 2013 by urging the State Department to release them.
"I want the public to see my email," Clinton said in a tweet late on March 4.
The State Department said it will review the e-mails provided by Clinton "using a normal process that guides such releases."
The move came after a Republican-led congressional committee investigating the deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi in 2012 issued subpoenas demanding Clinton’s e-mails.
Democrats have criticized the move, describing it as a “tempest in a teapot” and a desperate attempt to try to thwart a potential run for the presidency by Clinton in 2016.
