New Iran Video Purports To Show 2009 Election Was Rigged

A video has emerged that appears to show the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Mohammed Ali Ja'fary, saying that a reformist election victory was likely in the 2009 elections.

The authenticity of the video, posted June 1 to the Facebook account of Iranian dissident Mohammed Nourizad in Tehran, has not been confirmed.

Nourizadeh calls the tape evidence that the election was rigged in favor of then-President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, who was running for his second term.

In the tape, Ja'fary is shown telling what appears to be an audience of high-ranking Revolutionary Guards after the elections that a reformist victory would have been unacceptable.

Following the elections, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated in Tehran, claiming their votes had been stolen. Hundreds were killed and thousands jailed in crackdowns.
