Funerals Held For Iranians Killed In Hajj Crush

Funeral services were held across Iran for pilgrims killed in a stampede during last month's hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

At ceremony at Tehran University on October 4, mourners chanted "Death to Al-Saud," referring to Saudi Arabia's ruling family.

The bodies of more than 210 pilgrims were brought home by plane on October 3-4.

Iran has accused Saudi Arabia of incompetence in its handling of safety at the hajj, further souring relations between the two regional rivals.

Saudi authorities say 769 pilgrims died in the stampede near Mecca in the worst disaster to strike the annual pilgrimage in a quarter-century.

With 464 dead, Iran has the highest death toll among the countries affected by the tragedy.
