Rohani Says Iran Will Help Defend Middle East Against 'Terrorists'

Iranian President Hassan Rohani says Tehran will help people in the Middle East defend themselves against "terrorists."

Speaking September 22 before leaving for New York to attend the UN General Assembly meeting this week, he said "the government and armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will help them everywhere."

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry discussed the threat posed by Islamic State militants in a meeting September 21 with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York.

Their meeting came on the third day of the latest round of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers.

Kerry said last week Iran has a role to play in tackling Islamic State militants.

However, Iran is not included in the U.S.-led international coalition to fight the militant group.
