Rohani Tells Iranians They Will Get A Good Nuclear Deal

Iranian President Hassan Rohani has defended his nuclear policy before a domestic audience, pledging to reach a deal that would lift the hardship of Western sanctions.

Speaking at a rally to mark the second anniversary of his election victory on June 14, Rohani said: "We will enrich both uranium and the economy in Iran."

Rohani said his government wants Iranians "to have a bright economy and social welfare -- and the centrifuges, too."

Rohani also hit out at his critics, who claimed the main cause of Iran's economic woes is not sanctions imposed over its controversial nuclear program but failings in government policy.

"Those who say that sanctions are not important don't know anything about people's wallets," Rohani said, implying the high cost of imported goods.

Iran and world powers reached a framework agreement in April to curb Iran's nuclear program in return for the lifting of economic sanctions.

The deal is to be finalized by June 30.

On June 13, Rohani was more measured about the prospects for the talks, telling reporters in Tehran the deal could be delayed if world powers brought new issues into play.
