Iranian General Killed On Syria Advisory Mission

An Iranian general has been reported killed near the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Lebanon-based al-Mayadeen television reported on October 9 that Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) General Hussein Hamedani was killed late on October 8 while working as a military adviser to the Syrian Army.

An IRGC statement on October 9 confirmed that Hamedani was killed in the northern part of the Aleppo region.

The precise circumstances of his death were not immediately reported.

Tehran is a staunch supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and IRGC advisers have been helping the Syrian Army to combat antigovernment rebels.
