Dozens Die In Wave Of Iraq Car Bombings

A series of car bombings across Iraq has killed at least 30 people.

The deadliest attack took place in Hillah, some 100 kilometers south of Baghdad, when three separate car bombings struck two outdoor markets and a line of shops, killing nine people.

Authorities said that all the blasts occurred in a five-minute period on November 28.

A car bombing killed seven people in Najaf, about 160 kilometers south of Baghdad.

In Suwayrah, 40 kilometers south of Baghdad, a car bomb ripped through a commercial area, killing five civilians.

At least nine other people were killed in car bombings in Baghdad, and in Samarra and Tamiyah.

A spike in attacks in Iraq has raised fears about a return to the sectarian bloodshed that pushed the country to the brink of civil war in 2006-07.
