Police and hospital officials in Iraq say at least 10 people have been killed and dozens more injured in attacks across the country.

Twin suicide attacks on February 22 killed at least five people in Tikrit, some 170 kilometers north of Baghdad.

A suicide car bombing also hit Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, killing five military servicemen.

RFE/RL's Iraq Service correspondents in the area report "heavy clashes" between government troops and antigovernment militants in the western city.

Meanwhile, on February 21 Iraqi Defense Ministry announced a 72-hour halt to military operations in the city of Fallujah, which has been held by militants since January.

Iraq in recent months has seen almost-daily attacks.

According to the United Nations estimates, 8,868 people were killed in violence last year, Iraq's highest annual death toll in five years.
